The Valderrobres museum was opened by the Valderrobres Heritage Foundation in 2015. The objectives pursued with this space were several. On the one hand, the museum complements the tourist offer of Valderrobres by providing extensive information about the town and its environment, the region of Matarraña. On the other hand, the museum becomes a depository space for donations that disinterested benefactors decide to make to the town, becoming a space that houses permanent exhibitions of private collectors who have donated their works or their collections to Valderrobres. And finally, the museum of Valderrobres is also a repository of the memory of the town, with exhibitions that review the history of Valderrobres and its people over the centuries. The museum is therefore a multidisciplinary space, which has room for various contents, all available to the visitors who wish to access them.

THE ESCULPTURAL WORKS OF CARLOS ORONA

The Valderrobres Museum is fortunate to be the depository of a large part of CARLOS ORONA's sculptural work. This self-taught artist learned throughout his years as a bricklayer to work the stone, dedicating much of his leisure time to sculpture, which resulted in an increasingly complex and detailed work. Greatly committed to the recovery of the local heritage and a lover of the village where he was born, the theme of Carlos' works almost always revolved around Valderrobres. For the Valderrobres Heritage Foundation and its museum, he undertook to make sculptures in stone from all the churches in the region. Unfortunately, his premature death left the commission unfinished, and today seven of these magnificent pieces are on display, testimony to the talent of an exceptional artist.

MANUEL SANCHEZ TALLADA MODELS

MANUEL SÁNCHEZ TALLADA, born in Barcelona on April 19, 1941 and resident in the Matarraña region, is an amateur naval model maker, an activity to which he has been dedicated since 1990 and especially after his retirement. He has compiled a wide bibliography of international character that has allowed him to become a specialist in archaeology and naval engineering of the XVII and XVIII centuries. This knowledge, his skill and his perfectionism have been reflected in these two models that he has donated to the museum of Valderrobres and that are the result of 16.000 hours of almost uninterrupted work during five years.

ELVIRA DE HIDALGO LIFE AND WORKS

Elvira Juana Rodríguez Roglán was born in Valderrobres on 28 December 1891. Most probably her birth in this village was a bit coincidental, since her parents lived in Barcelona.
Elvira's childhood was spent in the Raval neighbourhood, very close to the Liceo, where she studied singing under the guidance of maestro Bordalba and soprano María Barrientos. From 1907, accompanied by her parents and brothers, she continued her studies in Milan, where she lived at number 3, Via dei Mille and where she made her debut at the age of sixteen.
Elvira de Hidalgo, the soprano's stage name, copied from the name and surname of her paternal grandmother, was a precocious young woman, who had already achieved stardom before her twentieth birthday. During her first years of profession she always travelled accompanied by her mother or older sister, reaping great success and the admiration of the richest men of the moment. In 1959 she moved back to Milan where she was elected professor for life at the Conservatory of La Scala and in her home, which had been converted into an operatic mausoleum, she continued to teach until her death on 21 January 1981.
